Mid-April 2007 President’s Message

I hope everyone enjoyed his or her break (a week or more in some cases!). I certainly did; no thinking for a week, just a lot of house painting for me.

  • The most important thing going on right now is VTA Elections:

The following offices are open for the 07-08 and 08-09 school years (June 1st, 2007-May 31, 2009). The term of office for each is 2 years. All active members are eligible to run for office.

Nominations will be at the 4/24 Rep Council Meeting at 3:45pm, Jepson Library. If you currently do not attend Rep Council meetings, and plan on being nominated for an office, please attend or send a notice of intent with your nominator.

An Election Committee, will be formed at that rep Council (3 members not on the ballot at least).

The Election Committee will determine voting dates, not sooner than April 27th (10 days after this notice).

  • We have also Sunshined the 07-08 contract. Not much going on right now; just lots of preparations for bargaining. Thank you to everyone who turned in a bargaining survey. Your input is so valuable!

As we wind down the school year, I want to thank everyone for great questions, meaningful discussion and friendly welcome I have received as I have visited all the school sites. We have such a terrific group of members.

We also have a strong leadership among us; that became enormously apparent in a recent meeting of department chairs at the DO. We are well-educated, thoughtful people who do the best we can for the students we serve and stand up for rights as well.
