President Brenda Hensley's Message
March 11, 2009

RIF notices have been sent/dispersed. If you did not attend the RIF meeting on 3/11/09 a member of the VTA Grievance Committee will be contacting you with information and getting packet of forms to you.

Some members have also received certified mail notices of reassignment. Reassignment will be done some time after May 15th. The Involuntary Transfer language in the contract (Article 7) will be used to reassign members to new jobs.

The District messed up on some postage to members receiving certified mail. If you paid postage due for your certified letter, please contact Mary Hughes in Human Resources for a reimbursement. Regardless, your principal should have contacted you for an appointment if you are receiving a RIF notice.

Final layoff (RIF) notices will be sent by May 15th. Those wishing to file for unemployment and/or COBRA (health insurance coverage) should click on those links on this homepage on the left.

VTA is working very hard to make sure that you exercise your legal rights if you wish and that those who are eligible for CTA legal representation get that help.

Those members that received RIF notices: MAKE SURE TO TURN IN YOU REQUEST FOR HEARING FORM to the District ASAP. Also, make sure to send you RIF Data Information in a sealed envelope to Brenda Hensley at Jepson. Your information will be kept confidential, known only to VTA Grievance and the CTA legal counsel.

I know our members will continue to be the professionals they are during this difficult time. Hang in there everybody.

Brenda
