Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about the June 5, 2018 statewide Primary Election although it’s six months away. With the top two primary system in California and constitutional offices up for grabs, we have a lot of work to do to elect the candidates recommended by CTA’s State Council of Education – the body of your elected representatives – who voted to endorse Gavin Newsom for Governor and Tony Thurmond for Superintendent of Public Instruction . Thurmond’s opponent – a corporate charter school supporter seeking to privatize our neighborhood public schools – has deep-pocketed supporters behind him, so it’s imperative that we emphasize early and often that Tony Thurmond is the right candidate for this critical job.
