Welcome to another school year! Some of you may know that a few members had contractual problems with their evaluations last year. Your VTA Leadership wanted to help guide you through the evaluation process (Article 10) in a way that makes sense. I am hoping that the attached 4-page check sheet will help you keep track of your evaluation this year, help to ensure that the district’s administrators follow the contract, and that any problems can be solved quickly and informally. This form only applies to the formal evaluation procedure. You may agree to an alternative method of evaluation, as stated in Article 10.5. You may read the entire Evaluation Article (10) on the VTA web site: www.vacateachers.org.
If you use this check sheet and answer NO to any contract question, then you should immediately contact Sylvia Aquino, our grievance chairperson, for advice on how to proceed. Sylvia can be reached by phone at 530-902-1002.
If you have any questions about the form or the articles referenced, please contact me by email mathgirl70@earthlink.net or BrendaH@vacavilleusd.org or
Also, for those of you who meet the requirements in Article 10.3.1.1 (see below), I have also attached a template of a letter that you can use to your request a 4-year cycle of evaluation. I used the next evaluation date as 2009-2010 since that would be the 4th year if you were evaluated 2 years ago. If that situation does not apply to you, please change the date accordingly. I highlighted the text that needs to be modified.
Article 10.3.1.1 states:
A permanent unit member shall have an evaluation at least every four (4) years for unit members who have been employed at least ten (10) years with the school district, are highly qualified; if those unit members occupy positions that are required to be filled by a highly qualified professional by the Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 2001, and whose previous evaluation rated the unit member as meeting or exceeding standards, if the evaluator and unit member being evaluated agree. The unit member or the evaluator may withdraw consent at any time provided annual timeline provisions of this Article are met.
