Welcome back

I hope everyone had a restful summer break and is ready to face the challenges of 08-09.

Your VTA Exec Board is meeting in August to evaluate the last year and set some goals for this coming year. Your VTA Action Team is also meeting to plan ahead for a successful year. I have been meeting with a local parents’ group this summer, the Coalition for a Responsive School Board, to work on common interests. This has been really exciting to be a small part of community action.

Thinking about getting involved this year? Become a site rep, volunteer for our action team or communications committee. We also will have a need to reactivate a functioning Political Action Committee. We have the possibility of replacing a school board member in December and then replacing 3 more in November 2009. With some hard work and fundraising for campaigns, we will turn the makeup of the Board.

Starting in September, I will be scheduling site visits at lunch. I always look forward to these opportunities to hear what is on the minds of our members. I always come to lunch without an agenda except to listen.

In my last year as president (yes, someone will need to step up in the spring!) I hope to continue facilitating the enormous strength and growth I have seen these last 3 years for the association. We have had some rough times, no question; but I believe we are stronger, more active and making a difference in our members lives.

Have a great start to school (and for our YRE folks, I hope everything has been smooth) and I will see you in September in a lunch room near you! :)
