Congratulations to several world language students from Buckingham Charter Magnet High School in Vacaville who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2017 National Spanish Examinations, a standardized assessment and motivational contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Forty-one BCMHS students from every level of Spanish offered earned national awards making their teachers, Anjee Deards and Jouli Jara, incredibly proud!  Seven students received a gold medal (top 95% in the nation), fourteen received silver medals (85%-94% in the nation), and twenty received bronze medals (75%-84% in the nation).  In addition, fifty-two students received honorable mention certificates (50%-74% in the nation). “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examination is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students nationwide participating in 2017.”

BCMHS has a long history of high student achievement on the NSE and is the only high school in the area that offers it to students.
