Our hearts are broken and we are shaken in the aftermath of the tragedy at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on Sunday. Students, teachers and faculty were volunteering, as they so often do, and witnessed gunfire that wounded several attendees and caused the deaths of three young people – two students, ages 6 and 13, and a recent college graduate.
We wanted to share a fundraiser we saw to provide a way for folks to donate to the family of Stephen Romero, one of the victims from Sunday and the son of a fellow union member with IBEW Local 332. For folks who would like to contribute, you can do that here.
Tragic incidents like these can be traumatic for us all. Visit NEA’s page on school safety featuringresources to help educators, students and parents.
Take care and solidarity to you and yours,
