Congratulations to our September 2017 Educator of the month, Betty Tracas!

I am a School Nurse because I love to work with students and their families! I learn something new each year as new diseases and illnesses come my way.
I enjoy being able to teach families about illnesses, how to prevent further complications from illnesses, being able to educate young people about illnesses, and how to take care of themselves in order to lead healthy lives.  Each one is a challenge in some way. I have been a School Nurse going on 34 years this year. In my Spare time I enjoy participating in a book club, going to the gym and exercising, and just relaxing and listening to my fountain in my backyard.  It just gives me such peace and calmness. I am Greek-American and love to attend Greek Festivals in the region.  I love to eat Greek food, but am a terrible cook! Being a member of the Vacaville Teacher’s Association means that I can go to my site Representatives and have them clarify parts of the contract that I might not understand.  It means that I have support if needed.  It is reassuring to have such knowledgeable people right  there to help me.

Working People Standing Together – see what it’s all about!

Check the California Labor Federation’s website for a video that is part of an ongoing effort to change the narrative about working people and their unions in the United States. With Labor Day just around the corner, this is the perfect time to watch and share these important resources.

Raise your voice on behalf of LGBTQ kids

With the current trend of denying students the right to use restrooms that correspond with their gender identity, among other types of discrimination, we need to ensure that all children can learn without anxiety, fear, or violence. PFLAG (Parents & Families of Lesbians and Gays) offers resources that can help you navigate the many issues Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning kids face.

Observing, celebrating peace

In the words of Gandhi, “If we are to reach real peace in the world, we shall have to begin with children.” Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. First established in 1981, you can celebrate the 2017 Day of Peace by participating in any number of these suggested activities .
