A quick note from President Todd!

Be sure to check you work email during the summer.  There are a lot decisions being made about what next school year will look like and we want you to be informed.

Message from Todd about the School Board meeting tomorrow

The School Board will be deciding in the next few board meetings (including tomorrow’s) how we will be going back to school this coming year.  Administration committees with some VTA members have been developing plans that attempt to balance safety for staff and students, access to quality education, and the child care needs of parents (including staff parents). Please express your opinions and concerns to them and if you would be willing to speak at tomorrow’s Board meeting as well (either on Zoom or in person) that would be great as well.  Here are their email addresses
JohnJansen@vacavilleusd.org; TraceeStacy@vacavilleusd.org; SDally@vacavilleusd.org; MichaelKitzes@gmail.com; sheriemahlberg@sbcglobal.net; MichaelSilva@vacavilleusd.org; ShawnWindham@vacavilleusd.org

Don’t cut our student’s future!

In the midst of a global pandemic, a more than $10 billion CUT to public education couldn’t be worse for our schools and kids. Laying off fifty-seven THOUSAND educators? Making class sizes BIGGER? No way!

The proposed 2020-21 state budget does NOT allow schools to open safely, which is CTA’s top priority when reopening schools and colleges, and threatens devastating education cutbacks. State lawmakers are finalizing the budget to send to Gov. Newsom by June 15. Take action NOW to protect our students and educators:

  • Call 855-977-1770 to tell your state lawmaker to support a budget with no education cuts and no educator layoffs! Details and sample messages are in the link. Then ask parents to do the same.
  • Email your U.S. Senators. Tell them to pass the HEROES Act. Then ask parents to do the same. (The proposed state budget relies on passage of the act; if it doesn’t pass, more cuts will be proposed.)
  • Sign up to stay informed and ready to promote the Schools and Communities First initiative on the November ballot. Reclaiming $7 to $12 billion each year for schools and community services will be essential in weathering this COVID-19 storm. ?
  • Learn more by viewing and sharing the TV ad created by CTA and the Education Coalition.
